I have been happy with the picture quality of the 5050ub and black levels. I was originally concerned about the size of the projector as my room is fairly small with a low ceiling (7.5 ft). After purchasing a low profile mount I was satisfied with the setup and it is relatively non intrusive in the room.My only real complaint with the projector is the frame interpolation setting. This can not be used when the image is being upconverted to 4k. Because I am always upconverting the display the image interpolation ability of the projector becomes obsolete. This is disappointing because scenes would benefit from the frame interpolation.
I am amazed. I am using this set on a wall shelf 1' below the ceiling about 12' from the screen. a 110" SI Pure White 1.3 screen, in my freaking living room (!) with very little daytime ambient light control. I was shocked to see how bright and watchable the projection was with measured ambient levels pushing 45 lumens at the screen! I was holding my breath when I ordered the screen because everyone, and I mean EVERYONE said I need an ALR screen. Either that or a projector pumping oout a roasting 4000 lumens or more. So very wrong. I firmly believe this Epson projector is a miracle maker. The rated 2600 lumens is plenty bright enough for all but the stupidest ambient light conditions. Once it's night time and fully controlled, things just get better and better. And thank you Epson for the lens memory presets! I'm thrilled with the image quality, and the fact that the price is reasonable makes it close to a no-brainer. Lots of tweakable settings, low fan noise -- unless you need to crank it up during brighter room viewing and then it's sometimes a little obvious at times. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
This brings a lot of value for the cost. Good picture quality, controls and clarity. It is however a BIG unit, makes a fair amount of fan noise and pretty much needs a dark room to be usable.
Incredible Projector. Went from a 3010 to this 5050 and the improvement in the picture is astounding. The 4k is extremely impressive even with non native 4k content. Highly recommended.
Variation Reviewed: Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 5050UBe 4K PRO-UHD LCD Projector with 2600 LumensThis is a fantastic projector. The biggest pros being:1) Price/Value Ratio2) Image Quality3) Brightness (including during the day time)4) Automated lens shift with memory settings (nice for switching between aspect ratios)Cons being:1) It's huge and it's heavy (not ideal for my living room)2) It's not a laser which will be annoying eventually (bulb change)3) I've had some technical issues which I've been unable to resolve yet (it turned off randomly once without closing the lens, it has an occasional dimming issue)
